Smiths vs Sharps Fitted Wardrobes: An Honest 2026 Comparison

Sharps Bedrooms is one of the biggest names in UK fitted furniture. They have showrooms across the country, a large marketing budget, and decades of brand recognition. We’re a London-based manufacturer with a factory in the capital and a different approach to pricing and lead times.

This page sets out the differences honestly. We’re not going to pretend we’re better at everything — Sharps has genuine strengths. But we think you should see the full picture before you decide.

Price comparison

This is where the biggest difference sits. Sharps’ hinged door wardrobes start from around £2,000, and their sliding door systems also start from approximately £2,000. However, the typical spend for a standard bedroom is often reported in the £3,000–£5,000 range once you add internal fittings, premium finishes, and accessories.

At Smiths, our hinged door wardrobes start from £1,000 and sliding door wardrobes from £2,200 — fully installed, including VAT. The reason is straightforward: we manufacture in our own London factory and sell direct. There are no showroom overheads, no franchise fees, and no middleman margin built into the price.

For a typical 3-metre bedroom wall, you can expect to save £1,000–£3,000 choosing Smiths over Sharps for a comparable specification.

Quality and materials

Both companies use Egger boards — the industry standard for quality melamine-faced chipboard. Sharps uses sustainable fibreboard and particleboard in their carcasses, and we use 18mm Egger and Cleaf boards throughout.

The internal fittings are where differences emerge. Both offer soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer runners. Sharps promotes their ability to create up to 40% more space than ordinary fitted wardrobes with their wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling approach — which is the same approach we take. Every bespoke manufacturer does this. It’s the fundamental advantage of fitted over freestanding.

Guarantee

Sharps offers a 15-year guarantee — five years longer than our 10-year guarantee. That’s a genuine advantage for Sharps, and we’ll be honest about it. However, the practical difference is smaller than it sounds: most quality fitted wardrobes last 20–30 years regardless, and the most common issues (hinge adjustment, runner replacement) are simple maintenance items that fall outside both guarantees after the first few years.

Lead time

This is where we have a clear advantage. Sharps typically quotes 6–8 weeks from order to installation. At Smiths, we can fit within 3 weeks of design approval — sometimes sooner. Our London factory means shorter logistics chains and faster turnaround.

Manufacturing

Both companies manufacture in the UK. Sharps has their factory in the West Midlands. We manufacture in London. For London customers, our local factory means we can respond faster to any post-installation adjustments and our fitters aren’t travelling long distances.

Customer reviews

Sharps has an impressive 4.7/5 on Trustpilot from over 22,000 reviews — that’s a huge volume of positive feedback. Common praise centres on the design process and the quality of the finished product.

The most frequent complaints in Sharps’ negative reviews mention aftercare issues, incorrect deliveries (wrong drawer fronts, missing handles), and occasional door alignment problems. These are the same kinds of issues any large-scale fitted furniture company faces, and they represent a small percentage of their overall reviews.

Smiths has a 4.5/5 Google rating with over 170 reviews. We’re a smaller company, so we have fewer reviews in total, but we’re proud of our rating and our ability to respond personally to every customer.
